Clean Wisconsin released the following statement after Governor Tony Evers announced 2019 as the year of clean drinking water in his State of the State Address:
“Everyone in Wisconsin needs and deserves clean drinking water. Water is the lifeblood of our state and is central to who we are as Wisconsinites. Governor Evers’ declaration that 2019 is the year of clean drinking water signals a renewed commitment by the state to protect and prioritize clean drinking water for all Wisconsinites.
“Wisconsin has a public health crisis due to lead in drinking water. Children and families all around the state are suffering from the effects of lead poisoning and solutions have been elusive. The Governor’s announced Executive Order will make the state an active leader in solving this public health crisis.
“Clean Wisconsin has been working to protect clean, safe drinking water. We are glad to see clean drinking water set as a priority in 2019 with Governor Evers. We look forward to working closely with the Governor and his administration to ensure that clean, safe, and healthy drinking water is a reality for all Wisconsinites in 2019 and beyond.”
