WE Energies rate increase
WE Energies wants to raise the price for electric bills by 13% and gas bills by up to 13.8%. Both increases are higher than those the company proposed when it filed its rate case with the Public Service Commission (PSC).
The PSC is considering approving these increased rates. If approved, $475 million in increases for WE Energies customers will take effect early next year. Instead of asking customers to pay higher bills, WE Energies should be expanding energy efficiency programs, saving customers money and combating climate change.
The PSC should ensure that WE Energies customers are paying fair and justified rates by lowering the company’s guaranteed profits from customer charges.
WE Energies should do more to promote energy conservation and ensure its customers can protect themselves from high utility bills by expanding energy efficiency programs for homes and businesses in its service territory.
