MADISON — Keith Reopelle, Senior Policy Director at Clean Wisconsin, the state’s largest environmental advocacy organization, released the following statement today regarding this afternoon’s release of a draft bill (LRB 3883/1) designed to implement the recommendations of the Global Warming Task Force:
“In 2007, Governor Doyle convened a group of diverse stakeholders including business leaders, environmentalists, utilities, consumer protection organizations, labor unions, politicians and more, charged with finding solutions that would reduce global warming pollution, create jobs, and keep energy bills affordable.
“After more than a year of study, the Task Force finalized recommendations designed to meet these goals in the summer of 2008. Today, legislative leaders released a draft bill designed to implement the recommendations agreed upon by the diverse members of the Task Force, and as a member of the Global Warming Task Force I applaud them.
“This bill represents critical legislation that is consistent with the Task Force recommendations and will help our state reduce global warming pollution, create jobs, become more energy independent, and lower energy bills.
“At Clean Wisconsin, we look forward to working with legislators, other members of the Task Force, and the public, to ensure that this bill is as strong as possible for Wisconsin’s environment and our economy.”
