Sylvia Hersh

As the Resilience Ambassador, Sylvia will educate residents about climate change and connect them with the knowledge, tools, and resources they need to mitigate and adapt to its impacts in Milwaukee. By working with and through trusted community-based organizations, the Resilience Ambassador is key to helping implement many of the strategies of the Milwaukee Climate and Equity Plan including Healthy Home Energy Upgrades.

Sylvia is a dynamic professional with a background in public health and community outreach. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Anthropology with a specialization in culture and linguistics from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. During her academic journey, she also completed a study abroad program at Bernardo O’Higgins’s University in Santiago, Chile.

Prior to her position with Clean Wisconsin, she served Wisconsin residents with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services’ Covid Response and Recovery Taskforce. Her work included contact tracing, and later, program implementation for the State’s testing efforts and vaccine rollout. Additionally, she has engaged in work focused on health equity, as well as disability rights and advocacy, collaborating with various Wisconsin-based nonprofits, such as Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin, Easter Seals of Wisconsin, I.R.I.S, and Independence First.

Sylvia is a Wisconsin native with a passion for conservation and social justice. A humanitarian and environmentalist at heart, she seeks to advocate for the good of all beings. She believes that environmental justice IS social justice, and we all deserve a beautiful, habitable planet.

Favorite things to do outdoors in Wisconsin: Taking in the natural beauty of Wisconsin by biking, skating, hiking, and swimming. She also delights in the many festivals and fairs held throughout the year.
