The Green Infrastructure Associate is a seasonal position in Milwaukee starting in May 2025 and ending in November. During the peak summer season, at least 40 hours per week can be expected, while hours may fluctuate at other times. The Green Infrastructure Associate is responsible for coordinating and assisting with community outreach and installation of rain barrels and rain gardens, conducting workshops and engaging with community members. This position reports to the Green Infrastructure Manager and provides general support to Clean Wisconsin’s resilient communities program as needed.

Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with the Green Infrastructure Manager, assist in project management of Clean Wisconsin and Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District’s green infrastructure outreach work in Milwaukee known as the MMSD Neighborhood GI Outreach Project.
- Coordinate outreach events and educational workshops with residents, neighborhood leaders, and neighborhood service providers and related organizations, to educate community members about the need for and benefits of green infrastructure.
- Coordinate and physically install small–scale residential green infrastructure projects, such as rain barrels, rain gardens, and native planting beds, and perform maintenance to existing green infrastructure.
- Operate as supervisor on job sites and oversee field work with MMSD’s Fresh Coast Intern Team.
- Assist the Green Infrastructure Manager in developing customized workshops and materials, policy development and education, and promoting green infrastructure to various audiences and special interest groups as needed.
- Seek opportunities and build partnerships for Clean Wisconsin in Milwaukee, southeast regional Wisconsin, and statewide.
- Support the resilient communities program team with grant project administration.
Required skills and experience:
- Ability to foster and maintain relationships with residents, partnering organizations, and associated community partners;
- Ability to work well independently and with a team;
- Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to effectively convey information to diverse audiences;
- Experience using basic garden tools and equipment (e.g. shovels, rakes, and hand trowels) is preferred but not required;
- Ability to interact effectively, appropriately, and compassionately with staff and community partners;
- Proficiency in basic computer skills;
- Commitment to helping create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences;
- Flexibility and creativity;
- Requires full range of physical movement – bending, reaching, lifting, etc. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites in different parts of the city.
Compensation:
The pay range is $22 to $25 per hour, commensurate with skills and experience. This is a seasonal position starting in May and ending in November 2025. Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 A.M. – 5:00 P.M. Evening and weekend work required. Work hours may vary depending on project needs. During the peak summer season, at least 40 hours per week can be expected, while hours may fluctuate at other times. This position does not include benefits.
