Today the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced an improvement to the Lead and Copper Rule that requires the removal of all lead service lines within ten years.
Here is what Clean Wisconsin Water and Agriculture Program Director Sara Walling had to say about today’s announcement:
“The release of this improvement to the EPA’s Lead and Copper Rule marks a critical moment in protecting public health and ensuring cleaner, safer drinking water for everyone. In 10 years, Wisconsin families will no longer be drinking water contaminated with toxic lead from lead service lines. As we confront the legacy of lead contamination, this rule strengthens accountability and prioritizes the safety of our most vulnerable communities. Today’s announcement sets us on a course for a healthier future, empowering local governments and water utilities to address this persistent threat with greater urgency and transparency.”
